Is a coffee bean a bean?

Coffee beans are technically seeds. They're the pits of the berries found on the flowering plants we call them ‘beans’ simply because they resemble them!

Who grows the most coffee in the world?

Brazil! The South American giant grows a third of the world’s supply and twice as much as the second largest producer, Vietnam.

What does the word ‘espresso’ mean in Italian?

‘Expressed’ or ‘pressed out’. Referring to the way an espresso is made, by forcing boiling water through pressed coffee grounds.

Can you drink too much coffee?

Yes, but don’t worry. You would need to drink around 30 cups in a short space of time to put yourself in any danger.

Who drinks the most coffee?

Finland is the world's biggest consumer of coffee on a per-person basis. The average Finn drinks nearly four cups a day. Coffee is so popular in Finland that two 10-minute coffee breaks are legally mandated for Finnish workers.

Does decaf coffee contain caffeine?

This may sound silly but yes. Decaffeination removes about 97% of caffeine in coffee beans. But don’t worry, a typical cup of decaf has about 2mg of caffeine, compared to a cup of regular coffee which has about 95mg of caffeine.

Where does the word coffee come from?

Qahwah later became kahveh in Turkish, and then koffie in Dutch, which is where we get the English word coffee.

How many calories are in a cup of black coffee?

Only 1. It’s the milk and the sugar which make this number climb.

Are coffee grounds good for my skin?

Coffee is great for your skin, it’s a natural exfoliator.

Will coffee dehydrate me?

Coffee is a natural diuretic. While you may need to visit the loo more often due to the caffeine inside, you won’t become dehydrated from drinking coffee.

What type of bean do you use?

There are two main types, Arabica, and Robusta. We use Arabica.

Why do your coffees sometimes change?

Coffee is a seasonal product with only one or two crops a year. If we run out of one, we’ll usually add another variety into our range.

Why don’t you have the same coffee I ordered last time?

We are sorry we have run out of the coffee you enjoyed last time! Get in touch with us and we’ll recommend another to keep you going.

When was your coffee roasted?

We roast Monday to Friday each week; the coffee you receive will usually have been roasted a few days before despatch.

Do you sell ground coffee?

Yes, we have the usual grind options available, listed in order of course to fine; Cafetière, filter and espresso. For the freshest coffee, we recommend grinding whole bean at home.

How should I store my coffee?

We recommend keeping it in the bag it comes in, seal it after each use or pop it inside a container in a cool, dark space.

How long does the coffee keep for?

We recommend using the coffee as soon as you can to get the most flavour from it, especially if it is ground.

How much coffee should I use for my brew method?

As much as you need to enjoy your coffee. There is a lot of information available online on how best to make coffee in a variety of different brew methods. We recommend you try for yourself and come up with an amount that you enjoy.

How is your decaf coffee decaffeinated?

Swiss Water processed. No chemicals and environmentally friendly.

I am buying coffee as a gift, which grind should I choose?

We recommend you find out what kind of brew method the lucky person uses and get the coffee ground for that brew method.

Can coffee be composted?

Yes, and the snails and slugs do not like it. But take care; it doesn’t work with every soil type so take advice from your local gardening expert.

Do you wholesale your coffee?

Yes, if you are interested in using our coffee in your café or shop, please contact us.

Is there a strength guide to your coffees?

No. Strength is determined by how much coffee and water you use. If you enjoy a particular roast profile, please contact us for a recommendation. Although you can always check out our coffee’s cupping notes on our product page.

All around the world, we source our beans from single estates in some of the finest coffee producing countries. Check out our shop to see where our current range comes from.

At our farm in the Kent valleys. Little Pett Bottom Farm, Maxted Street, Canterbury, CT4 6DJ, United Kingdom

Is your coffee Organic? Rainforest Alliance and/or Fair Trade?

Our coffee is a combination of organic, Fair Trade and Rainforest Alliance certified. These accreditations vary depending on where the coffee comes from. One thing is certain, we always source ethically and ensure our beans are of the highest quality.

Do you offer roastery tours and classes?

Yes. Visits to our roastery are by appointment only. Get in touch with us to find out more.


Do you offer coffee subscriptions?

Yes, we offer two different subscription packages, The Kent Coffee Club and Subscribe & Save. Find out more about how these work below.

How does The Kent Coffee Club Work?

You choose your monthly quantity (500g or 750g), you choose your grind type (wholebean, medium or fine) and we handle the rest.

Phil our master roaster, selects and roasts a different speciality coffee every month. This will be delivered on the 12th of each month (or as close to as possible). If paying by direct debit this will be charged on the 2nd of each month (or as close to as possible).

How does the Subscribe & Save subscription work?

Simply find your favourite coffee from our shop, select ‘Subscribe and save’ from the purchase options and choose your delivery frequency (weekly, fortnightly, or monthly). On all products you save £3 off a 1kg bag, £2 off a 500g bag and £1 off a 250g bag.

Can I cancel my subscription?

Yes, you can cancel your subscription from your account page at any time.

Can I pause my subscription?

Yes. Please call or email us to pause your subscription or to change the date of your next delivery.

Can I change my subscription?

Yes, Subscriptions can be amended from your account. Changing your coffee type, grind, weight, or shipping preference will not affect the delivery schedule for your subscription. Changing the frequency online will not affect your next despatch date, this will come into effect after the next renewal. If you would like to change your next despatch date, please send us an email.

Shipping & Delivery

How long does it take for home delivery?

Normally 2-3 business days. However, during busy periods this may take slightly longer.

What courier do you use for deliveries?

We use Royal mail and the best courier service available via Parcel To Go to send our UK orders.

I haven’t received a dispatch email/email confirmation?

Please be aware an automated email is sent to you to the given email address when your order is dispatched. Please check all folders including you junk as it will come from a no-reply email address. Please get in touch if you still haven’t received your email confirmation.

Can I collect my coffee?

Yes, please select this option at the shipping page on checkout.

Do you deliver on Weekends?

No, our courier company do not offer the service to deliver on weekends currently.

What do I do if I need to return my coffee?

We really hope you’re happy with your coffee and don’t have any need to return it! But if anything is wrong with your order, please let us know straight away and we will arrange a return or exchange.

When will my card be charged for my order?

Due to the nature of our payments system, the full cost of the order will be charged to the card as soon as it is placed.
